OK, so I'm a bit behind on the old blogging.. My apologies to everyone, but I'll put it down to a combination of poor Internet services, and me being too wrecked to even contemplate sitting in front of my laptop and composing an entry. Well I'm sitting now.. I'm writing all these from Las Vegas, but I'll write them as if I've been doing them day by day.
Forty Five minutes is what it took us to get to Long Beach today.. We managed to get there well before the check in time of 2pm, but they let us in anyway. We're parked in the city now and we're surrounded by fancy banks towering above us. The beach is only a short walk away... We took some time to recuperate from our lengthy journey, before deciding we'd go for a wee dander to get to know our latest resident town. We set out on what turned out to be a very long and enjoyable walk. As we strolled the streets of Long Beach we discovered the first bit of proper culture we've seen since we landed here. The atmosphere felt very different than any other city we've been to in the US so far. We listened to people along the road saying, things are different in the far reaches of California. Well they were right, life just seems less hectic here. We discovered streets full of nice bars and restaurants, lots of boutique shops and a food market selling fresh fruit and veg. By the time we looped around to the beach, the sun was coming down over the bay in front of us as we walked along the shoreline. The path was quiet, bar the odd cyclist or rollerblader whizzing past, even then they only added to the pleasant atmosphere. I know LA generally gets a bad wrap, but so far we're certainly impressed with Long Beach. We walked our feet off but still had a very relaxing day. We'll needed to conserve our energy for our visit to Universal Studios tomorrow. Early to bed for an early start.
